Umoja Gibson claimed both Big 12 Men’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week after coming off the bench to lead Oklahoma to a 75-71 upset over No. 9 West Virginia. It marks his first Big 12 honors after transferring to OU.  
 
Gibson poured in 29 points on 10-of-14 shooting, including 8-of-11 from 3-point range. The junior guard added five rebounds, two assists and two steals. He shot 4-of-5 from the 3-point line during the second half to help hold off the Mountaineers. Gibson’s 29 points and eight treys were the most by a Big 12 player last week. His point total was also the second highest off the bench by any Division I player this season while his eight 3-pointers are tied for the most by a non-starter.
