The Iowa State men finished as the national runner-up for the fifth time in program history earning its best NCAA XC finish since 1994 at the 2021 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, Florida. ISU’s Wesley Kiptoo finished second in the 10k at 28:38.7, just five seconds behind BYU’s Conner Mantz. This is Kiptoo’s second cross-country All-America honor. Teammate Thomas Pollard finished 21
st and received his first career All-America nod. Oklahoma State finished third and was led by Isai Rodriguez who finished 22
nd at 29:20.6, becoming a three-time cross country All-American. Shea Foster (27
th) and Victor Shitsama (29
th) also finished as All-Americans for OSU. Texas had a 14
th place finish and had Yaseen Abdalla end up 32
nd with a time of 29:28.1.
The Big 12 had three student-athletes finish in the top five of the women’s 6k. West Virginia’s Ceili McCabe finished third in the 6k marking the highest NCAA Championships finish in Mountaineer finish in program history (19:29.5). Iowa State’s Cailie Logue placed fourth, earning her second cross country All-America honor (19:29.8) and Oklahoma State’s Taylor Roe became an All-America for the second straight year finishing fifth (19:33.5). The Cyclones were ninth as a team and claimed their first top-10 team finish since 2014. Oklahoma State placed 13
th for its best team finish since 2015 and West Virginia ended up 21
st.
