Texas Secures 2021 Big 12 Volleyball Championship

Texas has won its fifth-consecutive Big 12 volleyball championship and earned the Conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament after finishing 15-1 in conference play this season. The Longhorns have captured 14 overall league titles, including winning or sharing 10 of the last 11 Big 12 championships and 13 of the previous 15.

UT has been ranked in the top two of the AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll each week of the season and is currently No. 4 in RPI. The Longhorns earned the top spot in the conference by one match, highlighted by capturing a crucial 3-0 victory in Waco against Baylor earlier this season. Texas lost just seven sets and swept 12 of 16 conference matches. UT was in the top five nationally in aces per set and hitting percentage entering the final week of the season. This is the second time Texas has collected five consecutive league titles, also doing so from 2011-’15. Former member Nebraska also won five straight on two occasions (1998-’02, 2004-’08).

Big 12 teams played a double round-robin format of 16 league matches played in eight double headers. Texas and the other Big 12 schools will find out their NCAA tournament fates Sunday, November 28, at 7:30 p.m. CT.
