Baylor’s LJ Cryer (player) and Kansas’ Gradey Dick (newcomer) collected Big 12 men’s basketball awards for the second week of the season. It is the first career Conference honor for both.
In three games last week, Cryer averaged 22.3 points, shooting 56% from the field and 50% from three while eclipsing the 20-point mark twice. His 28 points against the Bruins came in a career-high 35 minutes. After opening the game with 10 first-half points, the junior guard found his stroke in the second half making five of his eight shots, including three of his four three-pointers and a pair of clutch free throws to help the Bears hold on for the 80-75 win. Cryer also tied a career-high with four rebounds in the game. Against No. 16 Virginia, The Katy, Texas native, scored 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including three of five from downtown. He opened the week with 20 points against Northern Colorado, helping head coach Scott Drew capture his 400th career win at Baylor. Cryer ranks first in the Big 12 in three-point percentage (.543), second in three-pointers made (16) and third in scoring (18.0). With two more 20-point performances last week, Cryer has seven for his career and the Bears are 7-0 in those games.
