WVU’s Mitchell, OU’s Sherfield Claim Men’s Basketball Awards

West Virginia’s Tre Mitchell was recognized as Big 12 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week and Oklahoma’s Grant Sherfield took home Newcomer of the Week. Mitchell picked up his second career award while Sherfield was honored for the first time.
 
Mitchell averaged 16.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists in a 2-0 week for West Virginia. He recorded 19 points and six rebounds in the win over Navy and 13 points and seven rebounds in the win over UAB. The senior forward shot 59.1 percent (13-22) from the field, 50.0 percent (4-8) from 3-point range and 100 percent (2-2) from the free throw line.
 
Sherfield averaged 23.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.0 assists for Oklahoma last week. He led the Sooners in scoring against both Kansas City (24) and No. 9/8 Arkansas (23) as he has recorded 20-plus points in three-consecutive games. Sherfield shot 58.3 percent (14-24) from the field and 66.7 percent (8-12) from deep in the two outings. The senior guard also logged 33.0 minutes per game.
