Oklahoma’s Bahl & Johns Take Home Weekly Honors

Oklahoma swept the Big 12’s weekly softball awards for the second time in three weeks to open the 2022 season. Jana Johns was awarded player of the week for the first time in her career while Jordy Bahl secured her second pitcher of the week nod. Oklahoma went 5-0 at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic and remains perfect on the season at 15-0.

Johns hit four home runs in the five games and had all nine of her RBIs coming with two outs. The Calhoun, Georgia native had two home runs in Oklahoma’s 10-inning 9-8 victory over No. 17 Tennessee and batted .429 over the weekend with a .556 on-base percentage and 1.357 slugging percentage.

Bahl began her weekend throwing a perfect game against Cal St. Fullerton that included 11 strikeouts and became the first Sooner freshman to throw a perfect game since Paige Parker in 2015. Against No. 17 Tennessee, the Papillion, Nebraska native went a season-high 8.1 innings and struck out a career-best 16 batters. She finished the weekend throwing three innings and allowing no walks or hits against Utah in a 2-1 Oklahoma win.
