Iowa State’s Ellie Spelhaug was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for the second time in her career and the first time this season while Oklahoma’s Tiare Jennings was awarded the league’s Player of the Week nod for the second time this year and the sixth overall selection of her career.
Jennings exploded for three home runs in Oklahoma’s sweep of Kansas. The San Pedro, California native finished the weekend batting .636 (7-11) with eight RBI, eight runs scored and 17 total bases to lead the Big 12 in all four categories. She added two walks with two steals while slugging 1.455 without striking out. The 2021 NFCA/Schutt Sports Division I National Freshman of the Year was perfect in the field with six putouts and four assists at second base, including one double play.
Spelhaug pitched 12.2 innings in a week where Iowa State won three games, including a Cy-Hawk Series clincher against Iowa and taking two out of three against Baylor. The junior picked up two wins in her four appearances including her 5.2 innings of work against the Hawkeyes while striking out three in a 5-4 ISU victory. In seven innings against the Bears, the two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team member picked up one win while allowing just four hits and one run.
