OU’s Deal and UT’s Stewart Secure Season’s Penultimate Big 12 Softball Weekly Awards

Texas’ Katie Stewart (Player) and Oklahoma’s Kierston Deal (Pitcher) earned Conference softball honors for the 12th week of the season. Stewart was also named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA DI Player of the Week, the seventh time that a league player has collected the honor this season.

Stewart led the Big 12 in batting average (.727), hits (8), home runs (3), RBIs (11), total bases (19), on-base percentage (.769) and slugging percentage (1.727) during Week 12. The freshman guided the Longhorns to a 4-0 mark including a three-game sweep over Iowa State. Stewart had a 1.000 fielding percentage while splitting time between first base and catcher. It is the Frankfort, Illinois native’s first weekly honor and is the seventh time that a Longhorn underclassman has been selected for a weekly award this season. This marks the first time one school has had two different freshmen win Player of the Week in the same season since 2021.

Deal repeats as Pitcher of the Week after logging a 0.91 ERA across her two appearances last week, helping the Sooners to a sweep at UCF. The sophomore fired seven innings of two-hit ball in the second game against the Knights while allowing a lone unearned run in a 2-1 OU victory. Deal struck out five and walked one over her 7.2 combined innings while limiting opponents to four hits on a .138 batting average.
