West Virginia clinched its first outright Big 12 regular season title in program history following Arizona State’s loss to Oklahoma State on Thursday. The Sun Devils’ loss secures the highest Conference win percentage for the Mountaineers in the 2025 season after tying a program record with 19 league wins this season, with two games remaining on their Big 12 slate. West Virginia claimed a share of the regular season title in 2023.
West Virginia entered the final weekend of Conference play tied for the fifth-most wins in the country (40). The 40 wins are tied for the most in Mountaineer history, matching WVU’s total from the 1994 season. The Mountaineers have won six of their eight completed Conference series, including four sweeps that helped extend to a 14-game Conference winning streak. West Virginia had its Conference-opening series cut short as the first two games of its series against Oklahoma State were cancelled due to an outbreak of fires in the Stillwater area. WVU won the series’ only game to start Conference play.
The Mountaineers have secured the top overall seed for the 2025 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship. The top 12 teams in the regular season standings will advance to the 2025 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, starting on Wednesday, May 21 and running through Saturday, May 24.
