League Teams Gear Up for Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship

OKLAHOMA CITY -- It's championship week in Oklahoma City as eight league teams battle for the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship postseason crown at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Here are the notes for week 15:

  • The 2017 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship bracket includes top-seeded Texas Tech, TCU, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Baylor, Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma State. This is the 18th time that Oklahoma City has hosted the Championship.

  • Division one of the bracket includes: No. 1 Texas Tech, No. 4 West Virginia, No. 5 Baylor and No. 8 Oklahoma State. Division two includes: No. 2 TCU, No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 6 Texas and No. 7 Kansas.

  • Although TCU and Texas Tech had a similar 16-8 mark in league play, TTU's series win over the Horned Frogs earned them the top seed in this week's Championship.

  • For the third time overall and first time since 2011, Big 12 baseball has regular season co-champions. TCU clinched a share with a win over Oklahoma in Norman on May 12 while Texas Tech earned a share after a sweep of Kansas last weekend.

  • Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas Tech head into championship week having won their last conference series, one of which was played at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

  • Prior to the pre-championship luncheon, the All-Big 12 Teams and individual award winners were announced based on their success in the regular season. Full lists are on pg. 2.

  • Through Sunday's games, this is the fourth-straight week that all league teams have a .500 or better overall record.

  • The 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Baseball Team honors 89 student-athletes, including Matt Wilson (OSU) and Ryan Long (TTU) with perfect 4.0 GPAs. The team is comprised of 54 first team members and 25 second team honorees.

  • Through Sunday's games, the league has 67 percent of its teams in the RPI top 25, the most among all conferences. The RPI is as follows:

  • Texas Tech's Grant Little recorded Big 12 Player of the Week honors while TTU's Ryan Shetter was named Pitcher of the Week and Shea Langeliers of Baylor earned Newcomer of the Week.

  • The league holds a 40-26 (.606) record over Power 5 Conference teams, having 14 wins over Pac-12 opponents and 11 wins against the SEC.
