NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Former Iowa State wrestler Cael Sanderson was one of two U.S. wrestlers to claim medals at the World Championships Sunday, finishing as the 185-pound runner-up. Sanderson lost a close 4-3 decision to Sajid Sajidov of Russia in their gold-medal match.
In Sanderson's semifinal bout, the Heber City, Utah, native beat Revaz Mindorashvili of Georgia, 4-2. Overall, Sanderson notched a 4-1 record at the World Championships with wins over Tero Perkkio (Finland), 4-0; Majid Khodaei (Iran), 8-2; Mamed Agaev (Armenia), 3-0 and Mindorashvili.
