SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Second seed Texas A&M won its third Big 12 Soccer Tournament championship with a 3-0 win over fourth seed Texas in front of an over-capacity crowd of 2,707 (2,700 capacity) at Blossom Soccer Stadium.
A&M improves its record to 17-5 and earns the Big 12's automatic bid to the NCAA Soccer Championship. Texas falls to 13-6-2. The Aggies also won Big 12 Tournament titles in 1997 and 2001.
Texas A&M got its first goal which proved to be the game-winner 33 minutes into the game on Ashlee Pistorius' Big 12-leading 17th goal of the season, assisted by Allison Martino. Pistorius took a cross from the left and shot low right into the net.
The Aggies went into the half with a 1-0 lead and got their second goal on an own goal at 60:15. Kat Krambeer added A&M's final goal at 84:19 when she split defenders from 14 yards out. Laura Probst picked up the assist.
The 7,607 fans through three days set a Big 12 Soccer Tournament attendance record, bettering the 7,482 at the 2001 tournament.
The NCAA Soccer Championship selection show will be televised at 3:30 p.m. CST on ESPN News Monday.
