DALLAS -- The Big 12 Conference has announced its 10th annual All-Big 12 Soccer Teams, voted on by the league head coaches.
Brittany Timko (Nebraska) was honored as Big 12 Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, Kasey Moore (Texas) was chosen Big 12 Rookie of the Year and Rebecca Hornbacher (Iowa State) was picked as Big 12 Coach of the Year.
Timko, a junior forward, leads the Big 12 and is second nationally with 18 assists. Her 0.95 assists per game also leads the conference and is third in the nation. She is second in the league in both points (36) and points per game (1.89). Timko's 18 assists and seven game-winning assists are single-season school records. She has recorded 19 points in her last six games, including having a hand in each of Nebraska's last 10 goals. Timko is just the second soccer player to earn two player of the year honors in the Big 12, joining former Husker Christine Latham (2000 and 2001). She is the fi fth NU student-athlete to receive the award, following Kari Uppinghouse (1996), Kim Engesser (1998), Sharolta Nonen (1999) and Latham.
Moore, a freshman defender, has four goals, 35 shots and one game-winning goal for the Longhorns. She has started all 18 games in her rookie season and has helped Texas record six shutouts. Moore is the leading scorer among UT defenders. She is the third Longhorn to earn Rookie of the Year honors along with Kati McBain (2000) and Kelly Wilson (2001).
Hornbacher earned her fi rst Big 12 Coach of the Year honor after leading Iowa State to a tie for second in the Big 12 race, the school's highest fi nish ever. The Cyclones' six conference wins are a program high and the current 11 overall wins are the most since 1999 season (11). Hornbacher, a former Nebraska student-athlete, was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team as a goalkeeper in 1996 and 1997.
The Big 12 Soccer Championship will be held Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at Blossom Soccer Stadium in San Antonio. Tickets are $5 per day or $10 for a three-day pass and can be purchased at the stadium or through Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com).
