Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Weekly Awards Chosen (Feb. 19)

Feb. 19, 2007

Senior Jarrius Jackson (Texas Tech) and freshman Keon Lawrence (Missouri) have been selected as Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week for games of Feb. 12-18 in voting by a panel of media covering the conference. Both players capture accolades for the first time this season. The player honor is the third of Jackson's career.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jarrius Jackson, Texas Tech, G, Sr., 6-2, 185, Monroe, La./Ouachita
Jackson hit the game-winning shot with no time remaining at Texas A&M to give the Red Raiders a 77-75 victory over the Aggies. He finished with 31 points as Tech recorded its third win over a top 10 opponent this season. He followed that performance with 28 points versus Colorado in a 95-74 win. The senior guard shot 56.8 percent (21-of-37) from the field in two games, including 6-of-13 (.462) from 3-point range. He was also 11-of-15 (.733) from the free throw line. Jackson started his 100th consecutive game against CU and moved into second place on the Big 12 career scoring list with 2,104 points.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Keon Lawrence, Missouri, G, Fr., 6-2, 180, Newark, N.J./Weequahic
Lawrence led Missouri to two victories last week as the Tigers defeated Baylor (78-71) and won at Oklahoma State (75-64). The freshman guard averaged 21.0 points and 8.0 rebounds and shot 70.8 percent (17-of-24) from the floor in the two contests. He was 6-of-9 (.667) from 3-point range and made 2-of-3 shots (.667) from the free throw line, with four assists and two steals. He had a career-high 24 points versus Baylor, the eighth-highest scoring total in school history for a freshman, before following with 18 points against OSU. Lawrence's two-game total (42 points) was the most for a MU freshman since Kareem Rush had 50 points in back-to-back games in 1999-2000.
