IRVING, Texas -- Rachel Shipley (Texas A&M), Estelle Johnson (Kansas) and Emily Cressy (Kansas) were named Big 12 Soccer Players of the Week for games played from Aug. 22-25, the conference office announced. The weekly award marked the second of Shipley’s career, while Johnson and Cressy earned the honor for the first time.
Offensive Player of the Week
Rachel Shipley, Texas A&M, MF, So., Plano, Texas
Shipley led Texas A&M to two wins over the weekend while scoring seven points. She netted the first Aggie goal of the year in the 10th minute of a 3-2 win over Rhode Island and added an assist 10 minutes later. In Sunday’s 9-0 victory over McNeese State, Shipley contributed to three of the four first-half goals during a three-minute span. She sent two corner kicks into the box and also scored her second goal of the season.
Defensive Player of the Week
Estelle Johnson, Kansas, D, Jr., Fort Collins, Colo.
Johnson played all 90 minutes of the Jayhawks’ 3-0 shutout of No. 20 Purdue. She was the driving force behind KU’s defense, holding the Boilermakers scoreless on just six shots.
Newcomer of the Week
Emily Cressy, Kansas, D, Fr., Ventura, Calif.
Cressy scored a goal and added an assist in her first collegiate match against No. 20 Purdue. She scored KU’s second goal of the game and set up the Jayhawks’ final goal in the 3-0 win. Cressy also recorded a pair of shots in the match and finished with three total points.
