Longhorns Advance To Semifinals

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - A Baylor two-run homer in the top of the seventh wasn’t enough to upset the No. 1-seeded Texas Longhorns as UT advanced to the semifinals of the Big 12 Softball Championship at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.

BU’s Jordan Vannatta singled to left field, setting up Courtney Nieten’s dinger over the left field wall to pull the Lady Bears to within one, but UT prevailed, 3-2.

Texas jumped up early on a three-run blast from Tallie Thrasher in the bottom of the second. Amy Hooks singled to right-center, followed by Nadia Taylor’s base hit bunt to put runners at first and second. Thrasher then homered on an 0-1 count over the left field wall for a 3-0 Longhorn advantage.

Big 12 Freshman and Pitcher of the Year Blaire Luna started the game with seven straight strikeouts before surrendering a single to Megan Turk. Luna threw the complete game, giving her 26 on the season, and 12 strikeouts. UT will face the winner of the 5 p.m. game between Missouri and Oklahoma State at 7:30 p.m. on the main field.
