Sooners Shut Out Red Raiders

OKLAHOMA CITY – The No. 2-seed Oklahoma defeated No. 7-seed Texas Tech, 2-0, today in the second round of the 2010 Big 12 Softball Championship. The Sooners improved its league-leading record to 37 wins at the event, and will next face the winner of Nebraska and Texas A&M at 7:30 p.m. CT.

The Sooners were first on the scoreboard as freshmen Jessica Shults singled to left-center in the bottom of the third inning to bring in teammate Karolyne Long, giving OU the early 1-0 advantage. Oklahoma went up 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth after Katie Norris line drived up the middle allowing pinch runner Evan Sallis to score.

Tech had an opportunity to tie it up in the top of the sixth after a hit over third base compliments of TTU sophomore Raven Richardson. With two on, OU freshman pitcher Keilani Ricketts delivered another strikeout to end the inning for the Sooners. Ricketts notched in 12 strikeouts against the Red Raiders to move her into third all-time at OU in single-season.
