OKLAHOMA CITY – The No. 4-seed Cowgirls went head-to-head with defending champions and the No. 5 seed Missouri Tigers in game six at the 2010 Big 12 Softball Championship. Both teams were scoreless through six innings, but it was Mizzou who rallied to score five unanswered runs and advance to play top-seeded Texas in the semi-finals.
Both squads matched performances on offense and defense, but the Tigers were able to find a rhythm late in the top of the sixth. MU’s Jenna Marston and Ashley Fleming both singled to right field, and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by pinch hitter Abby Vock. Freshman Lindsey Muller next stepped up to the plate and sent yet another ball to the right-field fence to bring in two RBI and give the Tigers the 2-0 lead.
OSU was unable to score in the sixth, but Mizzou picked up where they left off and tallied three more in the top of the seventh. Rhea Taylor got on base on a bunt, followed by catcher Megan Christopher on a walk. With two outs, Fleming pounded one over the right-center wall to tab three runs for the Tigers. OSU attempted to muster a rally of their own in the bottom of the seventh, but came up short leaving two on to end the game.
