Reed Named To Capital One Academic All-America First Team

Kansas guard Tyrel Reed has been named as one of five members of the Capital One Academic All-America First Team, it was announced.  He is the ninth men's basketball student-athlete from the Big 12 to be recognized.

A Pre-Physical Therapy and Exercise Science major with a 3.65 GPA, Reed is the third-leading scorer for second-ranked Kansas. While averaging 10.0 points, he earned All-Big 12 Conference Honorable Mention honors. He has helped the Big 12 champion Jayhawks post a 32-2 record and earn the top seed in the Southwest Region.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
