Three conference games are on tap for Big 12 football in Week 5, including a Thursday night matchup, while two teams conclude non-league play.

Big 12 non-conference games the past two weeks have been against FBS teams that had a cumulative 19-4 mark entering the contests. The Big 12 went 7-4 in those outings. 

The Big 12 is the only power conference that has faced three top-five ranked non-conference opponents and four rated in the top 12. . The average score differential in those four games was less than a touchdown.  The Big 12 team was unranked in three of the matchups and rated 15 spots lower in the fourth.

37% of the Big 12’s non-conference games in the first four weeks of the season have been against power conferences. 

The Big 12 has played 19 games against non-conference FBS opponents and won 63 percent of those matchups.

60 percent of Big 12 teams are ranked or receiving votes in the national polls.

Since 2011, the Big 12 is 94-23 (.803) in regular season non-conference games. The Conference is 81-15 (.844) in non-league games in the month of September during the same span.

Big 12 offenses are averaging 75.1 plays and 456.3 yards a game while opponents average 71.2 plays and 349.8 yards.

The Big 12 has two of the NCAA’s six 100-yard kickoff returns and one of two 100-yard interception returns.

Among FBS conferences, the Big 12 is second in total defense (331.6 yards), third in total offense (456.3 yards) and third in scoring (35.0 points).

Through four weeks, Big 12 teams continue to be almost equal in rushing and passing scores with 65 rushing touchdowns averaging 9.6 yards and 63 passing touchdowns averaging 26.8 yards.
