Grant and Carleton Earn First Women?s Basketball Weekly Honors

Leashja Grant (Texas Tech) and Bridget Carleton (Iowa State) picked up the season’s first Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors, as voted on by a media panel that covers the Conference. Each was recognized for the first time.

Junior transfer Leashja Grant made her Texas Tech debut with a 26-point, 15-rebound performance in the Lady Raiders’ 79-45 win over Niagara. Her points and rebounds lead the Big 12 after opening weekend games. Grant connected on 11-of-12 field goal attempts for a .917 shooting percentage, which is second in the league, and added three blocks.

Bridget Carleton set the Iowa State freshman record for most points in a career debut with a 28-point performance in just 27 minutes in the Cyclones’ 95-59 win over Hampton. She was 10-of-17 from the floor and pulled down 11 rebounds for a double-double while adding four assists. Carleton posted another double-double in a 74-70 loss at Drake with 11 points and 12 rebounds. The guard is averaging 19.5 points after her first two games of the season, which ranks fifth among all Big 12 players and first among freshmen. Carleton also ranks fourth in the Big 12 in rebounding as she is averaging 11.5 boards per contest, which is also first among freshmen.
