The 2015 Academic All-Big 12 Football Team features 141 student-athletes, including 82 first team selections.
Four teams totaled 20 or more honorees as Kansas State paced the group with 25 selections, while Oklahoma State totaled 22, Kansas 21 and Oklahoma 20. The Wildcats also tallied the most first team members with 18, including three nominated with 4.00 grade point averages - Matt Seiwert, Stanton Weber and Dillon Wilson. Oklahoma State’s Brad Lundblade and Texas Tech’s Cameron Batson were also nominated with perfect GPAs.
Ten student-athletes become three-time first team honorees - Spencer Drango (Baylor), Daniel Burton (Iowa State), Lucas Knott (Iowa State), Jack Cantele (Kansas State), Will Davis (Kansas State), Glenn Gronkowski (Kansas State), Stanton Weber (Kansas State), Grant Bothun (Oklahoma), Nick Hodgson (Oklahoma) and Buck Jones (TCU).
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.
Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
