Texas Men and Oklahoma State Women Pace Big 12 in ITA Poll

All six conference men’s teams and three league women’s teams earned spots in the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings of the season.

Led by No. 4 ranked Texas on the men’s side and No. 5 ranked Oklahoma State on the women’s side, the Big 12 looks to continue its strong showing in tennis with dual play starting this month. No. 7 TCU, No. 12 Oklahoma, No, 14 Oklahoma State, No. 22 Baylor, and No. 23 Texas Tech also earned recognition in the men’s rankings, while No. 13 Texas Tech and No. 17 Texas recorded a ranking for the women.

Nationally, three men’s singles garnered a top 25 rankings: Christian Sigsgaard (Texas) at No. 6, Spencer Papa (Oklahoma) at No. 18 and Jolan Cailleau (Texas Tech) at No. 25. The doubles pairing of Arjun Kadhe and Julian Cash check in at fifth for Oklahoma State.

Three singles clock in to the top 25 with Baylor’s No. 7 Blair Shankel, No. 10 Oklahoma’s Lily Miyazaki and No. 11 Oklahoma State’s Viktoriya Lushkova for the women.

The Big 12 coaches’ preseason poll will be announced on January 11 with play starting January 12-13.
