Jarrett Culver (Texas Tech) picked up his first Big 12 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honor while Dedrick Lawson (Kansas) was named Newcomer of the Week for the second time. Lawson has been honored four out of six weeks this season with two player of the week designations. Culver has two career honors with a newcomer selection last season.
Culver averaged 22.5 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 89.5% (17-for-19) from the field and 80% (8-of-10) from the free throw line in two wins last week. He recorded a career-high 30 points with seven rebounds and four assists against Abilene Christian after adding 15 points earlier in the week against Northwestern.
Lawson posted his Big 12-leading sixth double-double with a season-high 28 points and 12 rebounds in KU’s 74-71 win against No. 17/16 Villanova. He shot 66.7% (10-for-15) from the field and 77.8% (7-of-9) from the free throw line. With 20.1 ppg and 10.8 rpg, he is one of just four players nationally to average 20 points and 10 rebounds.
