Two Big 12 squads, Texas and Oklahoma State, climbed in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll. This is the third time this season that both teams are in the top 15.
Texas appears in the poll for the 17th consecutive week at No. 8 after defeating Baylor 2-1 in overtime. Forward Cydney Billups scored a “golden goal” just 30 seconds into the first overtime to secure the victory. Texas (1-0-0) remains one of nine unbeaten teams in all of NCAA Division I women’s soccer.
Oklahoma State (2-0-0) climbed two spots from last week to No. 13 after winning both matches this weekend. The Cowgirls won their Conference opener against Kansas State 3-1. The team’s 2-1 win over then-ranked No. 24 Kansas extends their winning streak to seven. This marks the longest winning streak by an OSU squad since the 2011 season.
West Virginia, Texas Tech and Kansas also received votes in the poll.
The second weekend of Conference play continues Friday, September 28, with four matches, including a showdown between No. 8 Texas and No. 13 Oklahoma State in Stillwater at 7 p.m. CT.
