Texas, Baylor and Texas Tech Earn Player of the Week Honors
Texas’ Brionne Butler (Offensive), Baylor’s Kara McGhee (Defensive), and Texas Tech’s Caitlin Dugan (Rookie) earned Big 12 volleyball players of the week. Butler and Dugan received their first awards of the season, while McGhee garnered her second.
Butler made her full return for the Longhorns this past weekend after seeing limited action this season and averaged 3.20 kills per set and 1.80 blocks per set to finish the weekend with a total of nine blocks and 16 kills. Against Kansas State, the sophomore was a perfect 6-0-6 on the attack in just two sets, adding six blocks and two digs for 9.5 points. Against the Sooners, Butler put down 10 kills on a .471 hitting percentage, while also turning in three blocks.
McGhee led the Big 12 in total blocks (11) and blocks per set (1.8), including a career high eight-block performance at TCU with five of those coming in the final set. The freshman also added a trio of blocks against Iowa State, helping the No. 1 ranked Bears to win their 28th consecutive set.
Dugan rose to the occasion last week, posting a team-high 12 kills to help the Red Raiders to their first win at Iowa State since 2004. The freshman finished the match against the Cyclones with a .345 hitting percentage and ranked in the top-10 in the league with 3.00 kills per set.
