BU, ISU, OU and Texas Garner Week 8 Honors
Four Big 12 student-athletes garnered weekly accolades for their performances during Week 8.
Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, while Baylor linebacker Terrel Bernard was named Defensive Player of the Week. Texas kicker Cameron Dicker earned Special Teams Player of the Week, as Iowa State freshman running back Breece Hall garnered Newcomer of the Week.
Hurts completed 16-of-17 pass attempts for 316 yards and three touchdowns (no interceptions) and rushed 10 times for 75 yards and two scores as No. 5 Oklahoma defeated West Virginia, 52-14. The senior became just the third Big 12 quarterback to complete at least 90% of his passes, throw for over 300 yards and throw for at least three TDs in a league game.
Bernard tallied a career-high nine tackles and registered a career-best five solo tackles at Oklahoma State in his debut as a starting MLB after moving over from WLB. He returned the first fumble recovery of his career for 20 yards for the first TD of his career to put the Bears up 38-27 with eight minutes left in the game.
The sophomore Dicker made two field goals (39 yards, 33 yards) against Kansas, including the game-winning 33-yard kick as time expired to cap Texas’ 50-48 win over Kansas. Dicker’s kick was the Longhorns’ eighth last-second victory in school history and the first since 2011.
Hall tallied his second-straight 100-yard rushing game, rambling for a career-high 183 yards on 19 carries (9.6) and two touchdowns in the Cyclones’ 34-24 win at Iowa State. His 183-yard effort is the third-best by an ISU freshman and the best by a true freshman in Cyclone history. Hall also had 73 receiving yards on three catches for 256 all-purpose yards.
The weekly award is the fifth for Hurts this season (two offensive, three newcomer), while Bernard is a first-time honoree. Dicker’s honor is the third time in his career and the first this season, while Hall earned the newcomer accolade for a second-consecutive week.
