Former Texas pitcher Cat Osterman was named to the 2020 U.S. Olympic Softball Team, as announced by USA Softball.
Osterman represents one of 15 athletes selected to represent Team USA in softball at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. Of the 15 athletes, all of them competed collegiately across 10 institutions and four conferences.
Former Oklahoma pitcher Keilani Ricketts was named as one of three alternates.
Osterman was a three-time USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year, four-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American and two-time ESPY Award winner for Best Female College Athlete. She put up a staggering career record of 136-25 with a 0.51 ERA and 2,265 strikeouts while helping the Longhorns to three Women's College World Series appearances. Osterman still holds the NCAA record for highest career strikeout-per-seven-inning ratio at 14.34, remains the only player in NCAA Division I history to lead the nation in ERA on three occasions and managed 20 no-hitters and seven perfect games while at Texas.
On an international level, Osterman won gold as the youngest member of the U.S. Olympic Softball Team in Athens in 2004 and then took silver four years later in Beijing.
Ricketts' prior Team USA experience includes gold-medal finishes at the Pan American Games in 2011 and 2019; the 2018 World Championship title; and a runner-up finish at the 2012 World Championships.
The San Jose, Calif., product was a four-time All-American for the Sooners and led OU to back-to-back Big 12 titles in 2012 and 2013, as well as the 2013 National Championship.
Softball is returning to the Olympic Games after it was last contested in 2008. The Tokyo Games kick off July 24, 2020 and will conclude August 9, 2020. Softball competition is slated to run July 22-28, and will be held at Fukushima Azuma Baseball Stadium and Yokohama Baseball Stadium.
Final selections to the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team are subject to U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee approval.
