Football student-athletes from Baylor, Oklahoma and West Virginia were honored for their accomplishments during Week 11.

Oklahoma wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was tabbed Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, while Baylor linebacker Terrel Bernard earned Defensive Player of the Week. BU kicker John Mayers garnered Special Teams Player of the Week and West Virginia wide receiver Sam James was honored as Newcomer of the Week. A five-person media panel selects the honorees.

Lamb played a pivotal role in the Sooners’ victory over Iowa State, as he caught eight passes for 167 yards and registered first-half touchdowns of 48 and 63 yards. In the first half alone, the junior had six catches for 142 yards as OU led 35-14 at intermission. The game marked Lamb's school-record-tying fifth of his career with at least 160 receiving yards.

Bernard registered a career-high 19 tackles, the most by a Bear since 2011, in Baylor’s triple overtime victory at TCU. Additionally, he tallied a career-best 3.0 tackles-for-loss, while registering a sack. The sophomore hauled in his first interception of the season and second of his career to halt a TCU drive at the end of the third quarter.

Mayers hit three field goals in regulation, including a career-long 51-yarder with under a minute left in regulation to tie the ballgame, 9-9.  The field goal was the longest by a BU player since 2013. The redshirt freshman was also 2-for-2 in extra points in overtime.  Additionally, he connected on a 36-yarder in the third quarter and a 24-yarder in the fourth quarter and finished with 11 of Baylor’s 29 points.

James finished with a game, season and career-high 14 catches for 223 yards against Texas Tech. His 14 catches were tied for second-most in school history and his 223 yards were fourth in school history. The freshman’s 14 catches are tied for second in the nation and the 223 yards are eighth-best nationally this season.

This week’s honor is the second for Lamb this season and third overall, while Bernard and James also collected their second awards for the year. Mayers earned his third Special Teams Player of the Week award this season.
