For the third time in the last four seasons and second-consecutive year, six Big 12 teams will compete in the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship. Kansas, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas, Texas Tech and West Virginia all earned berths to the postseason as announced by the NCAA.
The Big 12 has received at least five or more bids in each of the last four seasons and five out of the last six. The six bids this year matches the second-highest in league history with only the 2003 season (eight teams) boasting more NCAA selections. This season’s six berths are tied for the most for the Conference since it began competition as a 10-team league in 2017.
Regular-season champion Oklahoma State (15-2-3) and postseason champion Kansas (15-4-3) both received No. 3 seeds. This is the third postseason appearance in the last four seasons for both the Cowgirls and the Jayhawks.
The Red Raiders make their seventh postseason in the last eight years as a No. 4 seed after finishing the season with a 15-3-2 record.
TCU (11-7-3) will make its fourth-consecutive trip to the NCAA Championship, while Texas (11-7-1) will make its third-straight appearance in postseason play.
The Mountaineers (10-7-2) will make it 20 years in a row with a postseason appearance when they take the pitch in the opening round of the 2019 NCAA Championship.
KU, OSU and TTU will host their first-round matches against Iowa, South Dakota State and Pepperdine, respectively, while TCU, UT and WVU will travel to face Arizona, Texas A&M and Georgetown, respectively.
All preliminary-round competition will take place at campus sites. First-round games will be played Nov. 15, 16 and 17. Second- and third-round games will be played Friday, Nov. 22 and Sunday, Nov. 24, and Quarterfinal games will be played Nov. 29 or 30. The 38th annual NCAA Women's College Cup will be played Dec. 6 (Semifinals) and Dec. 8 (National Championship) at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, California.
