Big 12 Lands Five on Soccer All-America Teams

Five soccer student-athletes representing the Big 12 were named to the United Soccer Coaches (USC) All-America Teams, as announced by the organization. Kansas’ Katie McClure, Oklahoma State’s Kim Rodriguez, Texas’ Julia Grosso and Texas Tech’s Kirsten Davis and Cassie Hiatt tied the Conference record for most selections in a single season.

Davis landed on the first team as the 2019 Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year. The junior forward finished second in the league with 39 points and 16 goals as the Red Raiders advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championship. Davis was one of four unanimous selections to the All-Big 12 first team.

Rodriguez was named a second team member after anchoring a Cowgirls defense that posted 10 shutouts and allowed just 18 goals in 22 matches. The junior was instrumental in leading OSU to its second Big 12 regular-season title in the last three years, as well as an appearance in the second round of the NCAA Championship. Rodriguez was also a unanimous All-Big 12 first team selection.

The Conference received a trio of third team selections in McClure, Grosso and Hiatt. McClure, another unanimous All-Big 12 first team member, was the league’s leading scorer with 43 points and 17 goals, leading the Jayhawks to a Big 12 postseason title and NCAA third round berth. Grosso tallied eight goals and eight assists for the Longhorns in a season that saw UT make its third-straight postseason appearance. The sophomore midfielder recorded at least two points in seven different matches this season and was named an All-Big 12 first team honoree. Hiatt controlled the center of the backline for Tech, leading a unit that posted 10 shutouts through the Big 12 Championship. The senior defender earned a spot on the All-Big 12 first team after her efforts this year.

This year’s All-Americans will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony & Reception on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020 at the Baltimore Convention Center in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention.
