Walker Named Big 12 Liaison to Softball Umpires

IRVING, Texas - The Big 12 Conference has named Sally Walker as the Liaison to Softball Umpires.

Walker will be responsible for the assignment, evaluation and training of the league’s umpires while also serving as the liaison to NCAA umpiring committees.

She has nine years of experience in this role as the coordinator for four conferences and the NFCA Leadoff Classic. Walker has served as the director of the Midwest Umpire Consortium which includes the American Athletic, Big Ten, Missouri Valley and Summit League.

“Sally’s vast experience as an umpire and a coordinator is exemplary,” said Senior Associate Commissioner for Championships Dayna Scherf. “We’ve had a very strong officiating program and I am confident that Sally will continue that success going forward. We are excited to have Sally as the Big 12’s Coordinator of Umpires.”

Additionally, Walker was a Division I umpire for 19 seasons. Her postseason experience includes a total of 32 postseason championships – five Women’s College World Series (2002, 2003, 2006 and 2009), five Super Regionals, 11 NCAA Regionals and 12 Division I conference tournaments.

The Urbana, Illinois, resident participated as a regional advisor to the NCAA Softball umpire program from 2010 to 2017. She managed the Illinois Collegiate Umpire Camp for three years and currently is a clinician and speaker for various collegiate softball camps around the United States.

Walker holds a bachelor of science degree in physical education from West Virginia University.
