Rising junior is one of two women’s tennis players selected to represent Australia at international tournament.

FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU women's tennis junior Aleksa Cveticanin has been selected to represent her country as a member of Team Australia in the 2019 World University Games in Naples, Italy. The competition, featuring college athletes from around the world, will take place July 3-14.

Cveticanin said she was excited for the opportunity to represent both her country and TCU on an international stage.

"I'm pretty excited! It's been a while since I've put on the Green and Gold," Cveticanin said. "I've grown up playing with the other players going on the trip, so it's going to be really exciting to reunite and see how we compete together."

The Brisbane native, has grown quite a bit since coming to TCU. She delivered a 9-5 singles record at the No. 1 position as a true freshman, before winning eight singles matches at No. 2 this past season, including a two-set victory over Kansas' nationally ranked Janet Koch at the Big 12 Tournament.

The Aussie was dominant in doubles play this past year, partnering with Ellie Douglas to form the top pairing for TCU. Cveticanin finished with a 14-4 record in doubles, including a 10-match winning streak, helping her and Douglas to a season-high ranking of No. 27 by the end of March.

Cveticanin will have a chance to play both singles and doubles in Naples and she is excited to show off her growth since joining the Horned Frogs family.

"I've been working a lot on my serve and return, but the most important thing for me is to compete and stay level headed throughout the match," Cveticanin said "I'm definitely going to wear the TCU colors while I'm over there. The colleges in America, especially TCU, provide such an amazing opportunity for international athletes. It will be really nice to represent TCU at this amazing event."

The tennis qualifying rounds run July 5-11 with the finals being carried out July 12 and 13.
