Smith, Tucker Collect Honors in Week 10
Baylor forward NaLyssa Smith earned her second Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award this season after guiding the Lady Bears to a win over top-ranked Connecticut, while Texas Tech’s Alexis Tucker collected her first Freshman of the Week honor after leading the Lady Raiders to their first league win of the season. A five-person media panel selects the honorees.
Smith averaged 20.5 points and 13.5 rebounds, as Baylor knocked off No. 1 UConn and defeated Oklahoma State. The sophomore showed out with a 20-point performance at UConn adding 12 rebounds and shooting 9-of-13 from the field. Her performance helped the Lady Bears take down the No. 1 team in the nation for the second-straight season. Smith followed with career highs in both points (30) and rebounds (15) in a conference win over Oklahoma State. She shot 12-for-20 from the floor and eight of her 15 boards were on the offensive end.
Tucker boasted 14 points and 6.5 rebounds over two games last week. She was instrumental in the Lady Raiders earning their first win at TCU in seven seasons, scoring 12 points on 71.4 percent shooting (5-of-7) along with nine rebounds in 25 minutes. Against K-State, the guard scored 16 points on 60 percent shooting (6-of-10) along with four rebounds and two assists.
