Three Big 12 women’s soccer players were selected in the 2020 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Draft in Baltimore on Thursday. The Conference has had 16 all-time draft picks in the eight-year history of the league.
Kansas forward Katie McClure was chosen in the third round by the Washington Spirit with the 23rd overall pick. Jayhawk teammate Addisyn Merrick was the next Big 12 player taken off the board, going to the North Carolina Courage in the fourth round, 28th overall. Texas forward Cyera Hintzen rounded out the Conference’s picks at No. 31 to the Utah Royals FC.
The NWSL College Draft consists of four rounds and 36 total selections. The Big 12 has had at least three players chosen in each of the last three years.
