Week 9 Honors Bestowed to ISU, OSU, TCU and UT
Student-athletes from Iowa State, Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas earned Big 12 honors for their accomplishments in Week 9.
A pair of Cyclones picked up accolades as Iowa State’s Breece Hall was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, while Mike Rose collected Defensive Player of the Week. Oklahoma State’s Tom Hutton and TCU’s Derius Davis shared Special Teams Player of the Week. Texas running back Bijan Robinson collected Newcomer of the Week.
Hall rushed for his seventh-straight 100-yard game (133 yards), caught two passes for 27 yards and scored a career-high three touchdowns (two rushing, one receiving) against Baylor. ISU was down 14 points in the second half and two of his TDs aided the Cyclone comeback.
Rose tied his career high with 11 tackles, including seven solo stops, in the come-from-behind win over Baylor. He was credited with two QB hurries and had 1.5 TFL. Rose saved the best for last, picking off a Charlie Brewer pass in the end zone with under a minute left to secure the victory for the Cyclones. It was his Big 12-leading third interception of the season.
Davis totaled 103 punt return yards on four attempts in TCU's win over Texas Tech. His pair of punt returns, which included a game-high 50-yard return, led to TCU touchdowns. Davis’ 103 punt return yards are a single-game high for the junior.
Hutton punted a career-high eight times in OSU's 20-18 win at K-State, playing an integral role in field position throughout the game. Three of his punts were downed inside the K-State 20. Only one of Hutton's eight attempts was able to be returned by K-State, as his spot punting forced fair catches or was targeted out-of-bounds. The Wildcats’ average field position following Hutton's punts was its own 23.5 yard line.
Robinson carried the ball 12 times for 113 yards against West Virginia, logging the first 100-yard game of his true freshman season. His 113 yards are the most rushing yards in a game by a Longhorn this season. Robinson broke a 54-yard run on Texas’ first offensive play from scrimmage - the longest rush of his young career, and the third-longest by a Texas player since 2017.
This is the third honor for Hall this season, while the remaining award winners are first-time recipient’s for their respective awards.
