ISU’s Joens, K-State’s Lee Earn Week 14 Awards
Iowa State’s Ashley Joens collected her fifth Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award, while K-State’s Ayoka Lee won her fourth-straight and ninth overall Freshman of the Week honor. A five-person media panel selects the award winners.
Joens averaged a double-double with 20.0 points and 14.5 rebounds in victories against Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. Joens tallied 23 points and 14 boards against OSU and 17 points and 15 boards against OU. After suffering a dislocated shoulder midway through the third quarter, Joens returned in the fourth with seven points and seven rebounds, leading the Cyclones to victory over the Sooners.
Lee tied a pair of career-highs and matched a school record during K-State's week of action. She averaged 19 points on a .452 (14-of-31) field goal percentage, while boasting 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks. Against Texas Tech, Lee tied her career-highs with 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting (58.8%). She also pulled in five rebounds, blocked four shots and pocketed a steal. Against Baylor, Lee tied the school record for double-doubles in a freshman season with her 12th by tallying 14 points and hauling in 12 rebounds.
