Iowa State’s Joens, K-State’s Lee Claim Final Big 12 WBB Awards
Iowa State guard Ashley Joens earned Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the sixth time this season, while Ayoka Lee claimed a record 12th Freshman of the Week accolade. The final weekly awards of the 2019-20 season were selected by a five-person media panel.
Joens tallied Iowa State's last three points down the stretch and ended Baylor's 58-game regular-season Big 12 win streak with a bucket and free-throw make. Her final bucket of the game marked her 1,000th career point, as she became the first sophomore in ISU history to reach the milestone. Joens averaged 12.5 points and 14.0 rebounds in victories against Kansas and Baylor. In the win over KU, she netted a career-tying 20 rebounds and 10 points.
Lee averaged 15.0 points on a .524 field goal percentage and a .889 free throw percentage, while pulling in 13.0 rebounds and blocking 3.0 shots in wins over Oklahoma State and Kansas. At OSU, the freshman secured the school record for double-doubles in a season with her 18th as she notched 13 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks in 36 minutes. In the regular season finale against Kansas, Lee boosted her double-double record to 19, as she tallied 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field and 7-of-7 from the free throw line and pulling in 14 rebounds.
