Seven Big 12 women’s basketball players were selected in the 2020 WNBA Draft held virtually on Friday evening. The seven picks were the most since 2013 and marked the seventh time the Big 12 had seven or more selected in a draft.
Overall, the Big 12 has 123 draft picks in the 24-year history of the professional league.
Baylor forward Lauren Cox became the sixth Big 12 player to be selected in the top-3, as the No. 3 overall pick by Indiana. She is the first top-three pick in the Conference since BU’s Odyssey Sims in 2014.
In the second round, three Big 12 players were selected at No. 17, 18 and 19 respectively: Texas Tech’s Brittany Brewer (No. 17 by Atlanta), Baylor’s Te’a Cooper (No. 18 by Phoenix) and Texas’ Joyner Holmes (No. 19 by Seattle).
Three other Big 12 standouts were chosen to round out the third round: West Virginia’s Tynice Martin (No. 34 by Los Angeles), Baylor’s Juicy Landrum (No. 35 by Connecticut) and Texas’ Sug Sutton (No. 36 by Washington).
Baylor’s three selections in 2020 were the most in program history and tied for the highest number in league history. Oklahoma had three in 2010 and 2002, while Texas had three in 1999.
