Seventy percent of Big 12 football teams had a player taken in the 2020 NFL Draft for a total of 21 selections. The Conference had five players chosen in the first round, its most in eight years since five were also selected in the 2012 draft. The Big 12 has had 89 first round picks since its inception in 1996-97.
Oklahoma WR CeeDee Lamb was the first Big 12 player to hear his name called as he was selected at No. 17 by the Dallas Cowboys. TCU WR Jalen Reagor was taken off the board four picks later by the Philadelphia Eagles at No. 21. OU LB Kenneth Murray was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers at No. 23 while Texas Tech LB Jordyn Brooks went at No. 27 to the Seattle Seahawks. TCU CB Jeff Gladney rounded out the Conference’s first round selections as the No. 31 pick by the Minnesota Vikings.
The Sooners have produced 47 all-time first round selections, including at least one in three consecutive years. TCU has 16 first round picks in school history with selections in consecutive years. Texas Tech has a draft selection for the sixth-straight year as Brooks was the first Red Raider defensive player taken in the first two rounds since 2009.
The Big 12 had seven players taken off the board on the second day of the draft with three selections in the second round and four in the third. Nine more players were drafted on the final day in rounds four through seven.
TCU (5), Oklahoma (4) and Baylor (4) all finished in the top 20 of programs with the most draft selections. The Big 12’s five first round picks tied for second among conferences.
