The Big 12 has placed three specialists each on the watch lists for the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker and the Ray Guy Punter awards.
Oklahoma sophomore Gabe Brkic headlines the Lou Groza candidates as the nation’s only returning kicker that made 100 percent of his field goal and extra point attempts last season. He is joined by Texas Tech’s Trey Wolff, who converted on 90.9 percent of his field goals in 2019 and Kansas State’s Blake Lynch, who made 90.5 percent.
The Red Raiders also placed Austin McNamara on the Ray Guy Award watch list. McNamara is the Big 12’s top returning punter with an average of 45.0 yards last season. He is joined by Kansas’ Kyle Thompson (44.5 yards per punt) and Texas’ Ryan Bjcevski (41.7).
Accomplishments are tabulated throughout the season and the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award will announce its 20 semifinalists on Thursday, November 5. From this list, a panel of more than 100 FBS head coaches, SIDs, media members, former Groza finalists, and current NFL kickers selects the top three finalists for the award, announced on Tuesday, November 24th. That same group then selects the national winner.
The Ray Guy Award committee will meet in mid-November to select the 10 semifinalists, who will be announced on November 24. A national body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, media representatives and previous Ray Guy Award winners will then vote for the three finalists to be announced on December 2.
The winner of both awards will be announced live during
The Home Depot College Football Awards show airing on ESPN on Thursday, December 10.
