UT’s Hammer, TTU’s Scott to Compete in U.S. Open

Current student-athletes Cole Hammer (Texas) and Sandy Scott (Texas Tech) will represent the Big 12 in the 120th U.S. Open Championship at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York beginning on Thursday, September 17. The duo is among 13 amateurs in the field of 144 golfers.

Hammer earned his second U.S. Open start by virtue of winning the 2019 McCormack Medal for being the No. 1 player in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. He burst onto the scene five years ago when he became the third-youngest competitor in U.S. Open history at 15 years, 9 months and 21 days. The Houston, Texas junior will tee off at 1 p.m. CT on Thursday with Matthias Schwab and Alex Noren.

Scott is the first current Red Raider to qualify for the U.S. Open and will compete in the event through his No. 6 World Amateur Golf Ranking. The Scotland senior will begin the tournament at 7:40 a.m. CT on Thursday paired with Kurt Kitayama and Robert MacIntrye. The three-some is just two groups behind Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas and Tiger Woods.
