Big 12 standouts from Baylor, Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas Tech picked up accolades for their performances in week two.
Oklahoma State’s Grace Yochum was tabbed Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, while Baylor’s Kayley Ables was named Defensive Player of the Week. TCU’s Emily Alvarado garnered Goalkeeper of the Week, as Texas Tech walk-on Madison Martin earned Freshman of the Week.
Yochum converted a penalty kick at the 86:34 mark to lift OSU to a 2-1 win over Iowa State. It marked the sixth-straight game in which she has scored a goal dating back to last season.
Ables thwarted All-American Kirsten Davis in a 0-0 draw against Texas Tech. She continued to break up action down her side of the field in addition to winning first-chance balls in the air. She was a key cog in Baylor holding one of the league's top offenses scoreless off 12 shots.
Alvarado has back-to-back shutouts to open the season. Of the five saves she made, four of them came in the second half. She helped TCU defend 20 Texas shots and four corner kicks in the game.
Forced into a starting role with reigning Big 12 Freshman of the Year Madison White unavailable, walk-on freshman Madison Martin posted 110 minutes of shutout soccer against Baylor in her collegiate debut. She made eight saves in the effort, including a kick save in the first half to stop a one-on-one chance for the Bears.
This week’s offensive honor is the third for Yochum in her career, while Alvarado is a second-time honoree. Ables earned her second consecutive award, while Martin collected her first accolade.
