Players from Big 12 Featured in MLB Playoffs

As the 2020 Major League Baseball Playoffs open on Tuesday, players from Big 12 programs will appear on postseason rosters throughout the league. Fifteen players were named to the postseason rosters. 

Among those in the American League include Oklahoma’s Chase Anderson (Toronto) and Jack Mayfield (Houston). Oklahoma State hurler Thomas Hatch will suit up for Toronto. Cowboy alums Tyler Lyons and Jordy Mercer are on the New York Yankees’ postseason reserve list. Texas Longhorn John Curtiss will appear on the 28-man roster for Tampa Bay. Baylor’s Nate Orf (Oakland) and K-State’s Evan Marshall (Chicago White Sox) also earned roster nods. 

Those from the National League included: Matt Carpenter (TCU, St. Louis Cardinals), Jedd Gyorko (West Virginia, Milwaukee Brewers) Corey Knebel (Texas, Milwaukee Brewers), Max Muncy (Baylor, Los Angeles Dodgers), Mark Payton (Texas, Cincinnati Reds), Garrett Richards (Oklahoma, San Diego Padres) and Josh Tomlin (Texas Tech, Atlanta Braves). Baylor's Dan Castano was added to the taxi squad list for the Marlins.

This year’s expanded MLB Playoff format includes a best-of-three game Wild Card series followed by a best-of-five Divisional series. The Championship Series and World Series will be seven games. For a full postseason schedule, click here.
