Baylor's Smith, K-State's Sundell Earn Big 12 Weekly Honors

Baylor’s NaLyssa Smith was tabbed as Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week and Kansas State’s Serena Sundell earned Freshman of the Week honors for games ending November 28, as selected by a five-person media panel.

Smith, the Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year, averaged 19.0 points, 15.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks, as she helped the Bears to sweep the Cancun Challenge Mayan Division with a 3-0 record. Smith came a rebound short of a 20-20 game in Saturday’s 74-58 win over Houston, finishing with 21 points, a career-high 19 rebounds and two blocks. She scored 17 points and had 12 rebounds against Arizona State in the middle game of the tournament, and began her time in Mexico with 19 points and 15 boards against Fordham. She shot 47.7 percent from the floor in the three games. It is her fifth career weekly honor from the Big 12, and her fourth career Player of the Week selection.

Sundell averaged 14.5 points and 3.0 assists off of 61.1 percent shooting to earn her first career Big 12 weekly honor. She had a career-high 25 points in the Wildcats’ win over Abilene Christian, making nine of her 11 shots from the floor and going 5-of-7 from beyond the 3-point line. It was Sundell’s second straight 20+ point game. Against Northwestern State, she helped the Wildcats move to 2-0 on the week and win a sixth straight home game, adding four assists to her total of 36, which ranks second among freshmen in Division I.
