Records Fall in Day 2 of Big 12 Swimming & Diving Championship

Evie Pfeifer and Carson Foster set meet records to lead the Texas women and men in the second day of swimming events at the 2021 Big 12 Swimming & Diving Championship at Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin. Additionally, both Longhorn 400 medley relay teams broke Championship marks. 
The UT men lead the team standings with 322 points while the women’s team is on top with 301 points. 
In the first finals event of the day, Pfeifer won the 500 free title in a Championship record of 4:36.35. Longhorn Coby Carrozza took the men’s 500 free with a time of 4:14.98 in a close finish over teammates Drew Kibler (4:15.00) and JohnThomas Lars (4:15.04). 

Foster claimed his Championship record when he swam the men’s 200 yard IM in a time of 1:41.46. UT’s Kelly Pash defended her Conference women’s title in the event with a 1:55.13.

Longhorn Daniel Krueger won the Big 12 medal in the men’s 50 free for the third time in his career with a 19:10. UT’s Grace Cooper clinched the victory in the women’s 50 free with a 22.50.

To close the night’s competition, Julia Cook, Anna Elendt, Olivia Bray and Pash set the Big 12 Championship record in the women’s 400 medley relay in a time of 3:28.26. It broke the previous mark of 3:29.51 set by Texas in 2018. Chris Staka, Caspar Corbeau, Alvin Jiang and Daniel Krueger set the men’s record with a 3:02.11. It broke the previous mark of 3:04.13 set by UT (Staka, Charlie Scheinfeld, Jiang and Krueger) in 2020.

The top four individuals in each event are awarded All-Big 12 first team designation. The fifth-eighth place finishers are All-Big 12 second team.

Prelims will resume Friday at 9 a.m. CT with finals scheduled for 6 p.m. CT. Finals will be aired on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ and results can be viewed at http://big12.us/2P0WwQY. Due to COVID protocols, the Championship is closed to the public.
