After leading Oklahoma State to wins over ranked opponents, Cade Cunningham swept both Big 12 Men’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week. Cunningham has won eight awards this season and earned both honors for the second consecutive week.
The freshman guard exploded for 40 points and 11 rebounds in OSU's overtime win at No. 7 Oklahoma. It was the first 40-point game by a freshman this year and the most by a Big 12 player in 2020-21 (by eight points). Cunningham’s performance was the first 40+ point, 10+ rebound game against an AP Top-10 team since 2006. It was also just the third 40-point outing in the 241-game Bedlam rivalry, and the most scored in a victory. Earlier in the week, Cunningham had 20 points in the Cowboys’ win over No. 18 Texas Tech on Big Monday. For the week he averaged 30.0 points on 58.8 percent shooting, 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks.
