Oklahoma’s Alo, Baylor’s Binford take Week 5 Softball Honors

Oklahoma’s Jocelyn Alo is Big 12 Player of the Week for the third time in her career and the first this season, with Baylor’s Aliyah Binford the Pitcher of the Week for the first time in her career.
Alo was 7-for-17 last week at the Hall of Fame Classic in Oklahoma City, with six of her seven hits leaving the yard, to go with 10 RBIs and 25 total bases. She leads the Big 12 and the NCAA with 19 home runs in 22 games, while her 1.484 slugging percentage leads the NCAA for batters with over 15 at bats. She now has hit a home run in six consecutive games. Positioned for a Big 12 Triple Crown, the senior from Hauula, Hawaii also boasts a Big 12-leading .547 average and 49 RBIs.
Binford was clutch in Baylor knocking off No. 9 Arizona State on Sunday in Tempe. With ASU leading 2-0 in the second inning with one out and the bases loaded, Binford was brought in to stop the bleeding – and did exactly that. The New Braunfels sophomore got the Bears out of the jam in the inning with no further damage, then tossed a shutout the rest of the way, allowing Baylor to come back and beat the Sun Devils on their home field, 7-2.
