KU’s Bradford, TTU’s Usoro Earn Athlete of the Week Awards

Kansas’ Zach Bradford and Texas Tech’s Ruth Usoro were honored as Big 12 Track & Field Athletes of the Week.

Bradford broke KU’s indoor school record in the pole vault at the Tom Botts Invitational in Columbia, Missouri this weekend, clearing 5.81m (19-0.25 ft.) making him the No. 9 performer in NCAA indoor history. The event was contested indoors due to the weather.

After taking the NCAA Indoor Championship in the triple jump in March, Usoro made her outdoor triple jump debut by breaking the school triple jump record in her first appearance at Fuller Track & Field. She downed the school mark with a top leap of 45'-3.75" (13.81m). Then, two jumps later, she landed a 47'-7" (14.50m). Usoro's jump broke the Nigerian record and counts as the sixth-longest in NCAA history. She is the number-two performer in NCAA history behind Georgia's Kenturah Orji, who owns the top-five marks. Earlier this week, she was tabbed the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week.

These are the first outdoor honors of the season for Bradford and Usoro.
