IRVING, Texas — Soccer student-athletes from Baylor, Iowa State and TCU were awarded with player of the week selections after the first week of the season.

The TCU duo of Gracie Brian and Brandi Peterson nabbed Offensive Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively. Baylor veteran goalkeeper Jennifer Wandt was named Goalkeeper of the Week and Iowa State's Lauren McConnell received Freshman of the Week.

Peterson tied for the team lead with 72 minutes played at Stephen F. Austin last Thursday, and was on the field for the entirety of Sunday's match against No. 9 Texas A&M. The senior helped TCU limit the Lumberjacks to just four shots on goal as the Horned Frogs didn't allow a corner kick, completing a season opening shutout. Peterson was also a key part in holding the Aggies to six shots, only one on goal, and was the passer on what was an own goal by Texas A&M. She then scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 77th minute of the match, bending in around the Aggie defenders from just outside the box.

Brian became the first Horned Frog since 2019 to record three assists in a game, picking up three against SFA. The junior midfielder assisted in the first, second and fourth goals of the opener. Brian also played the entirety of Sunday's match and was responsible for sparking the play that led to Peterson's game-winner.

Wandt picked up her first shutout of the season and 33rd of her career against North Dakota State, moving into sole possession of fourth place in Big 12 history. The fifth-year senior also won her 45th career match which brings her four victories away from tying the Baylor program record set by Dawn Greathouse (1997-2000). She combined for seven saves on the week, five against Minnesota in the season opener, and allowed just one goal by the Gophers.

McConnell started both of Iowa State's opening week matches to kick off her collegiate career, and scored the first goal of the season, which turned out to be the game-winner, against UC Santa Barbara. The freshman also recorded the assist for the Cyclones' lone goal against Cal State Northridge on Sunday.
